@f02@t4@cDRUGS - THE REALITY
@t5@f00 Over the past few years the general
pattern of the use of illegal drugs
has changed some what and the opinions
portrayed by the media and the
government towards this has changed as
well, instead of concentrating on a
demand reduction anti drugs campaign
as in the doom laden schemes of the
1980's it has come apparent that how
ever much you tell people to "just say
no" there are going to be people who
take it upon themselves to ignore the
advice given to them and take drugs
any way and so because of this a new
"risk reduction" policy has been put
into affect in the United Kingdom
@^
@t5which recognises this, and so aims to
reduce the risk to drug users by
informing them of the do's and don'ts.
The debate between what policy an
authority should take is complex, you
could look at it like this, do you A)
Adopt a demand reduction stance and
have a few people die of drugs, or B)
Adopt a risk reduction campaign and
have more people taking drugs but less
people dying because of them, a
difficult political issue I'm sure
you'll agree and this is why it is
some times hard to find out what
ideals and polices a certain political
party has towards the issue of drugs.
How is a drug defined and what
@#
@^
@t5makes a drugs legal or illegal ??
Well a drug is usually classed as a
substance (natural or synthetic) that
is used to dull pain or give pleasant
sensations to the body or mind, and
this is usually how a government
splits up drugs into legal and illegal
ones i.e ones that are used to make an
ill person better are O.K, where as a
drug that makes a better person feel
even better are not acceptable, but
sometimes this is not the case, for
example in Amsterdam, Holland cannabis
is legal and can be purchased from one
of a number of Coffee shops where it
can be smoked as well, all perfectly
legally, how ever this does not mean
there are no government restrictions
on cannabis use and distribution (for
example there is a legal limit of how
much a person can carry and it is
@^
@t5still a crime to sell it on. How ever
some people argue that the
legalisation of cannabis will
encourage the use of other drugs, as
they would also become more readily
available but on the other hand some
groups of people believe that all
drugs should be legalised as it is a
persons right to do to themselves what
they like as it does not directly harm
any one else and it is not for the
government to decide what you can and
can't do with yourself. Here in the
United Kingdom illegal drugs are split
into 2 seperate catogaries, class A
drugs and class B drugs, the class A
drugs are in the governments view more
dangerous and have harder legal
penalties to reflect this.The
following chart show how the drugs are
split up into the two categories:-
@#
@^
@t3 Class A Drugs :
@t2 L.S.D (acid,trips)
Magic Mushrooms - dried or prepared
M.D.M.A (E,X,exctacy)
Cannabis oil
Amphetmines - prepared for injection
Cocaine
Herorin
P.C.P (angel dust)
+ all other dervities of these drugs
(eg. crack)
@t3 Class B Drugs:
@t2 Amphetimines (speed,whizz)
Cannabis - herbal or resin (Hash,dope
blow,pot,etc)
@^
@t5 I don't think any drugs article
would be complete, with out mentioning
the new drugs craze, Exctacy. This is
with out doubt the drug of the 90's
being especially populour in the dance
scene where a single exctacy tablet
can help a "raver" carry on dancing
all night usually at a specially
organised rave where 1000's of people
rave the night away. Testing on
exctacy and its harm on the human body
is still under progress with little
conclusive proof so far but there is
some proof that continual use of
M.D.M.A (the ingrediant of exctatcy)
in rabbits causes brain damage and
reports of people losing the use of
their legs just add to the confusion,
but what ever, every week 1000's of
people will ignore the advice given to
them by the government and other
@#
@^
@t5authorities and take some drugs be it
smoking a joint, or dropping an
exctacy tablet, is there a problem
???, your reactions are welcome .....
